Bear

WHEN WE GOT HIM

Three years ago, I got the sweetest and probably cuddliest dog ever. It was my senior year of high school and I had just gotten my wisdom teeth removed. I was a little out of it because of the medication, but I still remember seeing him for the first time. He was so small and perfect. I had been waiting months for him and was so excited when I finally got to hold him.

WHAT KIND OF DOG IS HE?

Bear is a Goldendoodle, which is a mixture of a Golden Retriever and a Poodle. This hybrid breed first made its presence in 1990. The hope for mixing these two breeds was so that they could combine the friendly, energetic nature of the Golden Retriever, while also having the hypoallergenic coat of a Poodle. The playfulness and adorable faces are a few reasons why this dog has become very popular. It is hard not to see a Goldendoodle on social media or the streets because it seems like they are everywhere.

LIFE WITH BEAR

Before getting Bear, there were a few things I was expecting because of what I had read. I thought he was going to look like all the Goldendoodles I had seen; however, that was not the case. As he got bigger, he looked less like a doodle and more like a Golden Retriever. No matter what, he is still the cutest dog. Another thing that surprised me was how much he sheds. I had read articles and articles stating that most Goldendoodles do not shed because Poodles typically do not shed. I however, managed to get the one dog that sheds buckets of hair. While he may not be perfect, he exceeded all my expectations because he is lovable and will befriend anyone. My favorite part of the day is coming home and seeing his cute and excited face, and that makes up for all the hair that he sheds. I think everyone should have a dog and I feel lucky to have one of the best.
